NMPT with a strong membership including a variety of retailers,
accommodation providers (B&Bs/Hotels/Motels), wineries, galleries arts &
antiques, parks and gardens, tour operators, marketing, and diverse range of
dining & recreational facilities, responsible for producing the Mornington Main
Street Food, Wine & Performing Arts Festival annually.
COMMUNITY FOCUS:
NMPT have been bringing the Mornington Main Street Food, Wine and Performing
Arts Festival to the community for over 10 years, held annually on the 3rd
Sunday in October and attracting around 20,000 visitors and community members.
This iconic event promotes the Northern Peninsula Region and showcases the
produce of the Mornington Peninsula, provides high quality and innovative
performing arts programs and generates cultural and economic benefits for the
community.
NMPT members are fortunate enough to be custodians of the Old Court House (2
Main Street, Mornington). The last court of sessions was held in this beautiful
building in 1989. After falling into disrepair a battle was waged and won by the
Friends of the Courthouse and in the year 2000 the old building came under the
management and care of NMPT, allowing a cultural asset of the Mornington
Peninsula to be preserved for all.
TOURISM FOCUS:
The Court House provides the association the luxury of being able to provide a
Tourism Information Centre specifically for the Northern area, staffed by local
volunteers & members of NMPT who are familiar and passionate about what is on
offer in this area of the Peninsula.
REPRESENTATION:NMPT is represented by two delegates at the Mornington
Peninsula Tourism Board which meets once a month. This allows our members to
have an involvement and a say on how Tourism on the Peninsula is developed.
TOURISM INDUSTRY NIGHTS:
Networking opportunities are held bi-monthly with members being given the
opportunity to showcase their individual business to like minded tourism
operators by hosting a Networking Evening.
SOCIAL EVENTS:
A more relaxed form of networking, with two events held annually: "Christmas in
July" and "The Break Up" held in December. Events such as these allows our
members the opportunity to invite friends and business associates Again members
are given the opportunity to showcase their business by hosting one of these
events.
PROMOTIONS:
A number of various promotions have been undertaken over the years, ranging
from manning information stands at the RACV Great Australian Rally, and at
Federations Square, to working together with MPT in erecting the Information
Display outside Mornington Shire Information Centre.
Most recently the association has produced and distributed "Tear Off Maps" of
the Northern Region, and its own NMPT email address and web site with links to
members own web sites.
REGIONAL ATTRIBUTES:
The northern region has been a popular tourist destination for generations,
historical sites of the region, natural deep water harbour, sheltered sandy
beaches and a variety of water activities, continue to be enjoyed by day
trippers and holiday makers alike. The cosmopolitan style strip shopping of Main
